Address Standardization

To ensure that new member and existing member addresses conform to the United States Postal Service (USPS) requirements for proper formatting and abbreviation of an address, Portico can standardize and verify the address and alternate address information entered in New Members & Services. Address standardization will be performed by calling an Access Advantage (AA) web service that interfaces with a USPS web service. The USPS web service standardizes the address in real-time and free of charge.

Note: Only U.S. addresses will be standardized. Foreign addresses will not be standardized. Online standardization of an address through New Members & Services is independent of the existing address standardization process that occurs using the ZIP+4 and Address Exception Report 505. This process does not replace the need for the credit union to request the ZIP+4 and Address Exception Report 505.

To standardize and verify the address and alternate address information entered in New Members & Services, the Standardize New Members and Services Addresses check box must be selected on the Credit Union Profile - Products & Services tab. You must be assigned to a security group containing the Portico – System – Credit Union Profile – Maintain permission to maintain this check box. You must close and re-open Portico to activate the feature.

How do I?

When adding a new member in New Members & Services, address standardization will occur when you click Next on the Member Verification tab. For existing members requesting a new service, the address standardization will occur when the existing address is changed and you click Next or Save/Release on the Member Verification tab or you can click the Request USPS icon. The Address Standardization dialog box will appear displaying the standardized address.

Address Standardization

You can add the missing information in the appropriate Original Address group box and click Standardize to re-standardize the address.

You can accept the standardized address as displayed by clicking Accept, or you can cancel the standardized address and use the original address entered on the Member Verification tab.

Note: The Address Line 2 field may not be changed in the Standardized Address group box even if the information in the field is invalid. There are times that the USPS website does not validate the information in this field. If no changes or errors are received from the USPS website due to the information in the Address Line 2 field, Portico will use the data originally entered on the Member Verification tab.

You can manually request address standardization by clicking the Request USPS Address Standardization icon button on the Member Verification tab. If the address entered is identical to the USPS standardized address, an informational pop-up message will appear.

If you clicked Next or Save/Release on the Member Verification tab and the address is identical to the USPS standardized address, no message will appear and you will continue with the next step of the New Members & Services workflow.

The Address Standardization dialog box displays the standardized address from the USPS web service.
