Return Codes
Enter the desired return or paid code in the Return Code field. Portico automatically will use the default values specified on the Credit Union Profile - ACH/Payroll tab to charge the appropriate fee. The valid return codes are:
Paid ACH Items:
- NEG - Posted - Account Negative
- UNC - Posted - Uncollected Funds
- MIS - Posted - Credit union-defined
- CPY - Posted - Courtesy Pay
Returned ACH Items:
- R01 - Insufficient funds
- R02 - Account closed
- R03 - No acct/unable to locate account
- R04 - Invalid account number
- R05 - Unauthorized debit to consumer account using corporate SEC Code
- R06 - Returned per OFI request
- R07 - Authorization revoked by customer
- R08 - Payment Stopped. Do not use if SEC Code is ARC or RCK.
- R09 - Uncollected funds
- R10 - Customer advises originator unknown to receiver and/or is not authorized by receiver to debit receivers account
- R11 - Customer advised entry not in accordance with the terms of the authorization
- R12 - Account sold to another DFI
- R14 - Representative payee deceased or unable to continue in that capacity
- R15 - Beneficiary or account holder (other than a representative payee) deceased
- R16 – Account Frozen/Returned per OFAC Request
- R17 – Fields cannot be properly processed by RDFI
- R20 - Non-transaction account
- R21 - Invalid company ID
- R22 - Invalid individual ID (CIE, CTP, CTX)
- R23 - Credit entry refused by receiver
- R24 - Duplicate entry
- R29 - Corporate customer advises not authorized
- R31 - Permissible return entry. Only valid if SEC code is CCD or CTX.
- R33 - Return of XCK entry
- R37 - Source document presented for payment. Only valid if SEC code is ARC, BOC or POP.
- R38 - Stop payment on source document. Only valid if SEC code is ARC or BOC.
- R39 - Improper source document. Only valid if SEC Code is ARC or POP.
- R50 - State law affecting RCK acceptance
- R51 - Item is ineligible
- R52 - Stop payment on RCK
- R53 - Item and ACH entry presented for payment
- R61 - Misrouted return
- R67 - Duplicate return
- R68 - Untimely return
- R69 - Multiple errors
- R70 - Permissible return entry not accepted
- R71 - Misrouted dishonored return (not valid on ACH Exception Items window)
- R72 - Untimely dishonored return (not valid on ACH Exception Items window)
- R73 - Timely original return (not valid on ACH Exception Items window)
- R74 - Corrected return (not valid on ACH Exception Items window)
- R75 - Original return not a duplicate
- R76 - No errors found
- R77 - Non Acceptance of R62 Dishonored Return
- A1 - Misrouted acknowledgment entry
- A2 - Incorrect trace number
- A3 - Incorrect company identification number
- RFN - Create notice or assess fees on an ACH item not returned through the Federal Reserve
Returns initiated by the ACH operator are:
- R13 - RDFI not qualified to participate
- R18 - Improper effective entry date
- R19 - Amount field error
- R25 - Addenda error
- R26 - Mandatory field error
- R27 - Trace number error
- R28 - Routing number check digit error
- R30 - RDFI not participant in check trunc PGM
- R32 - RDFI non-settlement
- R34 - Limited participation DFI
- R35 - Return of improper debit entry
- R36 - Return of improper credit entry
- R62 - Incorrect trace number
- R63 - Incorrect dollar amount
- R64 - Incorrect individual identification
- R65 - Incorrect transaction code
- R66 - Incorrect company identification
- R85 - Incorrectly Coded/Outbound International Payment
The following return codes are used by Federal Government Agencies when returning ENR entries:
- R40 - Non-participant in ENR program
- R41 - Invalid transaction code
- R42 - Routing number\check digit error
- R43 - Invalid DFI account number
- R44 - Invalid individual ID number
- R45 - Invalid individual name\company name
- R46 - Invalid representative payee indicator
- R47 - Duplicate enrollment
