When completing the sale of a traveler's check, money order, or domestic outgoing wire transfer, Portico will not allow the benefit fee to be less than the minimum amount established for the product code defined for the fee. In addition, if a fee benefit specified is greater than the standard fee, Portico will assume you wish to assess the lower standard fee.
Point of Sale Fee Benefit
To implement a Point of Sale fee benefit, the Count POS Transactions check box must be selected on the EFT Processing Rules - ATM/Debit Processing Rules tab. For a Signature Point of Sale fee benefit, the Signature Based POS field must be A or B on the EFT Processing Rules - ATM/Debit Processing Rules tab.
Courtesy Pay and Overdraft Transfer Fee Benefits
Overdraft Transfer and Courtesy Pay fee benefits will be applied at the time the fees are posted online or in the back-office cycle. Portico will review a member's relationship pricing plan for Overdraft Transfer or Courtesy Pay fee benefits when the following activity occurs:
- Online on-us check clearings requiring overdraft processing
- Online ATM, debit card, and bill payment withdrawals requiring overdraft processing
- Back office ACH and share draft processing requiring a transfer from an overdraft protection share account
- Online and back office fee assessment for ACH and share draft exception items posted using Courtesy Pay
Reports and notices that are generated as a result of the activity will reflect the discounted fee amounts assessed based on the member's relationship pricing plan. If you choose to add Overdraft Transfer fee benefits, be sure to evaluate the custom message on the Share Draft Overdraft Protection Notice (455 Report) and consider removing any references to the standard overdraft transfer fee amount since it will no longer apply to all members. If you define a new fee amount of 0.00 for the Courtesy Pay fee benefit, a 0.00 fee transaction will not post to the member’s account and the 0.00 fee will not be included on the Returned Share Draft, Non-Return and Stop Pay Fees Report 457.
Domestic Outgoing Wire Transfer Fee Benefits
To add a fee benefit for Domestic Outgoing Wire Transfer fees, you must use master code GOWD to set up a product code for domestic wire transfers, linking the product code to a domestic outgoing wire transfer fee. Portico will only review a member's relationship pricing plan for the Domestic Outgoing Wire Transfer fee benefit when a wire transfer purchase is made using the Transactions - Deposits, Withdrawals, Payments, Transfers tab. If necessary, you can use the Transaction Definition window to add a new product code to the ALD - Deposits, Withdrawals, Payments, Transfers tab. When you complete a domestic wire transfer for a member in a relationship pricing plan with the Domestic Outgoing Wire Transfer fee benefit, the Transaction Fee dialog box will display the fee benefit.
Additional Cashier's Check Qualification Criteria
An additional qualification criteria at the credit union level is available for the cashier's check or credit union check fee benefit. The Free Item Balances field and Combined Minimum Balance field on the Credit Union Profile - Products & Services tab allow you to define a minimum combined account balance that must be met before a member qualifies for the cashier's check or credit union check Number of Items Free benefit. The Free Item Balances field can be set to N – Not Supported, S – Shares Only, or B – Shares and Certificates. The Combined Minimum Balance field can be 0.00 up to a maximum of 999999.99.
- If the Free Item Balances field is N, Portico will not check the member’s combined balance amount before allowing the member to receive the Number of Items Free benefit.
- If the Free Item Balances field is S, Portico will calculate the combined balance amount using the member's share account balances of 0.00 or greater. If the combined balance is greater than the amount in the Combined Minimum Balance field, the member qualifies for the Number of Items Free benefit.
- If the Free Item Balances field is B, Portico will calculate the combined balance amount using the member's share account and certificate balances of 0.00 or greater. If the combined balance is greater than the amount in the Combined Minimum Balance field, the member qualifies for the Number of Items Free benefit.
If your credit union uses master code GKCU for credit union checks, you can use the credit union-level fee benefit requirement for both cashier's checks and credit union checks.
If the member’s Relationship Pricing plan includes a number of items free benefit for cashier’s checks or credit union checks based on a combined total balance requirement, Portico will evaluate the member's account balance to determine if the member qualifies for free checks. If the member does not meet the combined balance requirement for free cashier’s checks, the Transaction Fee dialog box will indicate that there are 0 free items available. If the member's combined balance is equal to or greater than the required balance amount to receive free cashier’s checks, the Transaction Fee dialog box will indicate that there are free items available. If the member's combined balance is equal to or greater than the required balance amount to receive free cashier’s checks, but the member has used all the free items, the Transaction Fee dialog box will display the discounted fee (if the Items Free & New Amount fee benefit was selected).
Monetary Instruments Counters
The Number of Items Free benefit works in conjunction with the member-level counters used to track the number of money orders, cashier’s checks, credit union checks, traveler’s checks, gift cards and gift checks issued to a member each month. The monthly counters are incremented for items purchased using the Transactions - Deposits, Withdrawals, Payments, Transfers tab, Transactions - Money Orders tab, and Transactions - Traveler's Checks and Miscellaneous Tracked Forms tab. You can view and maintain the monthly counters on the Monetary Instruments Counters dialog box.
Complete the following steps to implement the monetary instruments counters option:
Step 1. If necessary, add the security permissions to the applicable credit union-defined security groups using the Security Group Permissions – Update window.
Permissions | Security Groups |
---|---|
MbrInfo – Monetary Instruments Counters – View Only |
Teller - Basic Member Services - User |
MbrInfo – Monetary Instruments Counters – Maintain |
Teller - Advanced Member Services - User |
Step 2. Determine the counter categories to appear on the Monetary Instruments Counters dialog box and use the Customized Field – Update window to exclude the categories that will not be used by setting the Use Field check box to unchecked. Then, enter the customized field labels on the Customized Field – Update window as needed.
Step 3. On the Product Code Information window, verify that the monetary instrument product codes have the correct master code assigned so they can be counted. The monetary instrument and their associated master codes are:
Monetary Instrument | Master Codes |
---|---|
Cashier’s Checks | GKCC |
Credit Union Checks |
GKCU |
Gift Cards |
GOGK |
Gift Checks | GOGC |
Money Orders |
GOMO, GKOP |
Traveler’s Checks | GOTC, GOT2 |
Step 4. On the Transaction Definition window, review the ALD - Deposits, Withdrawals, Payments, Transfers, ALM - Money Orders, and ALT - Traveler's Checks and Miscellaneous Tracked Forms transactions. Verify that the monetary instrument product codes are added to the To Information side with a process ID of AH so the per-item calculations are accurate.
Step 5. Add or update the Relationship Pricing plans that will now include Number of Items Free for cashier’s checks, credit union checks, gift cards, gift checks, money orders, and/or traveler’s checks.
Relationship Pricing and Account Analysis
Relationship Pricing is generally recommended for individual member accounts, while Account Analysis is recommended for business accounts. Normally, you will use one or the other, but there may be occasions when a member account is setup for both Relationship Pricing and Account Analysis. If a member’s Account Analysis is set up with a soft dollar or flat fee charge type, Portico will not use Relationship Pricing to provide discounted fees or free items. The standard fees will be tracked to provided an Account Analysis benefit. If a member’s Account Analysis is set up with a hard dollar charge type, Portico will use Relationship Pricing to provide discounted fees and free items.
