You can allow your members to initiate ACH origination items through online banking using a credit union-level ACH authorization limit. Items that exceed the credit union-level ACH authorization limit will be reported in a credit union-defined Exception User Queue for approval. The following ACH origination items cannot be setup through online banking:

  • credits or debits GL accounts
  • payments to education loans

  1. You can use the ACH origination authorized limit feature with Enhanced or Remote Override by setting up remote override groups with employees that have authorization limits greater than the credit union-defined limit on the Credit Union Profile – ACH/Payroll tab. After you assign staff members to the override groups, select a user or department from the Exception User Queue drop-down list on the Credit Union Profile – ACH/Payroll tab. When a user assigned to the override group attempts to originate an item for an amount is greater than the authorization limit, Portico will display a User Override dialog box. The user must select the remote override group and override user that has an authorization limit greater than the transaction amount to approve the request.

Virtual Branch Online Banking provides the following branding options for ACH Origination:

  • An ACH Target field is a discreet ACH control that determines how and where submitted ACH Transfer request data is sent.
  • An ACH Number of Transfers field can be displayed on ACH Transfer forms. Portico ACH origination does not support number of transfers.
  • An ACH Reference/Purpose field can be displayed on ACH forms to allow the member to enter comments on the form. This is a 105 character free-form field. If your credit union chooses to display this field and a member initiates an ACH origination from Online banking, anything that the member enters in the field (e.g. Thank You) will cause the ACH origination item to be rejected to the Exception User Queue on the My Queue window. The comment will be recorded on the Self Service Transaction Register Report 946.

A Reason Referred to Exception Queue group box will appear on the ACH Origination tab in New Members and Services indicating the possible reasons for rejection:

  • Transaction Amount Exceeds ACH Limit
  • User Provided comments…..See 946 Rep-107211902793
  • Recurring Request After Cycle cutoff-1 of 2-123456789012
  • Recurring Request After Cycle cutoff-2 of 2-123456789012

Online banking cross transfers are allowed using the accounts listed on the Permissions - Financial tab.

For online banking requests sent after the back-office cycle or during Extended Service Mode: Each time Portico receives an ACH origination request from online banking, a check is performed to determine if ACH processing has already run for that business day and if the back-office cycle has already run for that business day. If ACH processing or the back-office cycle has run, Portico advances the effective date by 1 day for 1-time requests, and uses split logic for recurring requests. For instance, if a weekly request comes in on Wednesday after the cycle. Portico will create a one-time request effective for Thursday to satisfy the first week request. Portico will create a second request as a recurring frequency of weekly with the following Wednesday as the effective date. This keeps the original integrity of the weekly on Wednesday request.
