Offline Processing

Offline Processing provides access to basic Portico transactions when the Portico host is not available. Offline Processing lets you continue servicing members when the Portico host is not available using a series of basic transactions, identified as offline. These transactions are stored using the Portico journal and later, under teller control, are automatically transferred to the Portico host for processing. Transactions received by the host that are determined acceptable are posted. Transactions that contain errors are rejected, allowing tellers to correct these transactions and re-send them to the host.

In addition, Offline Processing accumulates offline totals that are displayed on the Quick Balance dialog box.

The following transactions are available in offline processing:

You cannot complete certificate purchases, add-ons, or surrenders while using Offline Processing. All security permissions are honored within Offline Processing. For example, if a user is not permitted to complete a loan payment when Portico is online, the user will be prevented from submitting a loan payment when working in Offline Processing.

Setup

To prepare your credit union for using Offline Processing, you must activate Offline Processing and assign the required security permissions while you are connected to Portico (online). You cannot be setup to use Offline Processing when your credit union is unable to connect to Portico (offline). In addition, the credit union information and user information files must be in cache so Portico can identify your credit union and user when logging in.

Recommendations

If you produce checks offline, it is important to define a process for handling the check numbers. You can define a range of check numbers to only use for Offline Processing or make note of the last check number used and continue using the following check number. Enter the check numbers as needed when completing offline transactions. Then, before posting the transactions, add the checks to your inventory.

You may wish to have your tellers practice using Offline Processing on a monthly basis to be familiar with the process, in case a true offline issue occurs.
